Christmas is still a couple months away, but I'm excited to announce the release of my first published work, Wonderful: a devotional journal for the Christmas season.
The holiday season, beginning with Thanksgiving and ending with ringing in the New Year is my favorite time of the year. And the climax of this season is Christmas. Decorating, baking, shopping, cooking, wrapping presents, trimming the tree… all leading up to those few days of family gathering and gift opening. As one of my favorite Christmas songs sings, It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas. The celebration of Jesus’ birth. The arrival of the promised Messiah. During this season, it’s easy to get caught up in the busyness and festivities. Or become disillusioned by the commercialism and superficiality. Many of us want to simplify - to stop filling calendars and schedules and expectations, so we can fill our hearts with what really matters: hope, peace, joy, and love. And maybe, just this once, during this short season, we can experience wonderful life. This time is described by the song-writer as wonderful… but sometimes, we’re not feeling wonderful. And any wonderfulness there is doesn’t usually carry into the rest of the year. Especially after I’ve failed in sticking to that New Year’s resolution… again. I want to unwrap and embrace full, abundant life. Life that is real and fearless and jubilant. Life that is a celebration beyond the holidays. Such life is only found in Jesus the Messiah, the One who alone fulfills abundantly, and lavishly gives all that is needed for real, fearless, jubilant life. Deep down, in the soul of my heart, I want Jesus. I want to know Him. I want to live in His love and live in love with Him. I want Him to be my very life. Does the soul of your heart desire this as well? Then journey with me back to the first Christmas; to the longing and preparing for the Messiah’s coming, and the fulfillment of that longing and preparation in Jesus’ birth. Wonderful is all about unwrapping the hope, peace, joy, and love Jesus gives, awakening the wonder of God's sending His Son, and embracing the life He makes possible, both during the holidays, and long after. 20 devotions includes Scripture readings that take you through prophecies of the Messiah's coming, and their fulfillment in Jesus' birth. There are journaling pages and plenty of white space for creative reflection. Wonderful is designed to be used during the weeks after Thanksgiving leading up to Christmas. But it is also designed to be flexible, so if you miss a day, you won't feel like you're behind and need to scramble to catch up. You can order your copy here. Hoping you have a wonderful holiday season!
